Our Community
Oranmore (Irish: Óran Mór) is a town on the outskirts of the City of Galway in County Galway on the west coast of Ireland. It was originally called Fuarán Mór, meaning “Great Spring” in Irish.
Thomas & Co is located beside Oranmore Castle, which was built in or around the 15th century. It was owned by the Norman Clanricarde family.
Oranmore is home to Irish Actress Nicola Coughlan, Irish Cyclist Sean Kelly and Premier League footballer Aaron Connolly amongst many others.
Thomas & Co are very proud to be part of this community, we wish to play an active and positive role in our community.
The Galway Giving Tree
Every year we put up a large Christmas Tree here at Thomas & Co, we have 150 tags hanging from our tree, each tag represents a gift for a child who might be living in Direct Provision, temporary accommodation, homeless, or maybe their parents simply can’t afford a gift. This year we gathered 150 gifts plus a further 180 gifts ??
The gifts are collected by the Elves from the Galway Giving Tree and delivered to those children in time for Christmas.
It’s an amazing charity and one that we go out of our way to support.
Letters to Santa
Organised Christmas letters to Santa to be dropped off by children and sent directly to the North Pole in time for Christmas – Covid restrictions proved to be quite a challenging time for parents, Santa confided in us that a Post Box here would assure the local children all got their letters off safely and in good time – Santa kindly sent a return letter acknowledging the letters
Trick or Treating
With Halloween affectively canceled Thomas & Co due to Covid we set about organising Trick or Treating where we would call to you, our staff got dressed up and with the generosity of our neighbours Tesco, Aldi and Musgraves we set about delivering over 450 trick or treat bags packed with Halloween goodies. It was a massive undertaking but so worthwhile when we seen the effort some kids and indeed parents went to.
Direct Provision Easter Egg
A call came in with a request to supply as many Easter Eggs as we could do children in Direct Provision. We managed to find enough Easter Eggs so every child got one this Easter Morning.
Oranmore / Maree FC
The local soccer club have just completed extensive work on a state of the art facility in Maree. They needed the support of the local community and offered Pitch side Advertisement as a way of generating funds. Thomas & Co where only happy to get involved and more than willing to support our future athletes.
Lockdown Deliveries
Lockdown Food / Essential deliveries to those in the Galway area who needed our help – Nicola and I put food and essential goods together and put out an offer to help, we had 80+ packages, we delivered to homes of those most vulnerable. A very rewarding and worthwhile evening spent helping our elderly and most vulnerable.
